History of the Home

The Richards Lakin House
The Richards Lakin House is named after the two initial owners, Alphronso Richards and his wife, Millicent Lakin.  They never had any children but created rental space in the home that at times was used to house WWI and WWII wives and children of soldiers fighting overseas.  In the 1940s, soldiers from the Fort Devens military base in nearby Ayer practiced drills in the back yard.  For nearly four decades, the Blood family lived in the home.  They were associated with the Pepperell Springs which furnished water to nearby residents.  Current proprietors, Shenna Shepard and Joe Tansey, have owned the home for 28 years.  They have lovingly restored it to its Victorian glory, furnishing it with antiques and decorating it lavishly for various holiday events.  It was featured two different years on the Pepperell Holiday Homes Tour and the Groton Community Homes Tour.  Shenna is both an artist and a clinical psychologist and Joe is a retired chiropractor.
